Membership Outline
Helping Hemi Hands is a membership platform for Families who want to learn how to safely and effectively complete upper limb therapy with their child. We aim to boost your knowledge and understanding about current upper limb therapy techniques used to treat children with Hemiplegia.
The membership is an ongoing commitment where you can get regular support
and guidance. The aim is to provide support and information about therapy approaches and treatment options which children with hemiplegia may access to help support their development and progress.
The information is not tailored to any specific individual and their needs but includes information which is generalised and used across a range of treatment approaches. It is also focussed and designed for those who are seeking guidance about possible options to discuss or explore with their child’s dedicated therapy and health teams.
The membership is best suited to those who are seeking information about treatment options and approaches, inspiration and ideas for upper limb therapy and wishing to expand their understanding of the evidence behind the current best practice for the treatment of hemiplegia. Should you need specific or bespoke support then please sign up to the premium membership which includes 1x 30min 1:1 zoom assessment with a therapist or contact us to enquire about our one to one services. You could also discuss these ideas with your child’s Physiotherapist, health care or education professional.
Membership Specifics
There are five elements to the standard membership:
i) 2 Live therapy sessions
ii) A minimum of 3 Q&A sessions live in the group
v) A Private Facebook Group
Premium membership also includes:
vi) 1:1 30 min zoom call
Live Group sessions
The live therapy sessions will be led mainly by Nikki, Highly Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist, or a suitably trained CIMT/Bimanual therapist
From time to time they may be joined or led by expert coaches and consultants who are specialists in different areas of education, health and wellbeing.
The therapy sessions will take place, either directly in the private Facebook Group or via Zoom (or another similar video conferencing platform) for approximately 30 mins. Unless there are unforeseen circumstances, the video calls will take place on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon trying to accommodate the needs of the group where possible and we will notify you of the times in the Facebook Group
During each live therapy session, you will have the opportunity to join in with the Upper limb therapy session which will be based around the current month’s focus. Where possible the therapist will give ideas on how to adapt the activities to your child’s level of function. If you have any concerns about your child’s ability to participate in the sessions please contact Nikki directly or ask your child’s current therapy team. You may need to prepare some toys and equipment prior to the session and should receive a summary of these at least 2 days in advance. During the live sessions you and your child may be visible to others on the session. The sessions will be recorded and can be watched by members at a later date and may be used in future advertising and social media. In order for the sessions to run smoothly I would ask for you to keep your microphones muted at all times. Late admission to the group session may not be possible
Question & Answer Sessions
Each month you will get the chance to ask questions about your child and experiences in order that you may be supported and signposted to services and treatments that may be of use. The Q&As will be delivered either via the Facebook group or Zoom. This will provide you with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your own circumstances and get support. Unless a member of our Therapy team has seen your child 1:1 the advice given will be based upon the information you have provided and therefore can not be specific to your child and should be checked by your child’s current therapy/medical team.
Self-Study
In addition to the group sessions and live Q&As there will be materials provided for self-study. These will be linked to the months specific topic and will be available in the membership site and linked to on the facebook group. For best results you should work through the workbooks and audio or video material in your own time. Failure to complete the self-study materials may limit your ability to learn from the tips and guidance shared in the live sessions.
Private Facebook Group
You will have access to a private Facebook to support you during the Membership. The intention of the Facebook group is to provide community support and a network of individuals who are interested in completing upper limb therapy techniques with their child.
The goal of the group is for parents to support each other and offer advice.
It is a place for you to post answers to the questions asked in the self study in order to provide accountability.
Nikki Toon or a member of the team may post and offer support in the Facebook
Group but there is no guarantee that posts will be responded to immediately or that any Facebook mailboxes will be monitored.
Please be advised that whilst we hope that you will be able to utilise the Facebook group, we make no guarantees as to the availability of the group and/or the content within the group at any time.
